Brian Greenslade says…
I robustly opposed the Government’s plans for Police & Crime Commissioners because they were flawed due to bringing party politics into policing, concentrating power in the hands of one individual and cost.
In this period of austerity it is obscene that the Government are willing to spend 80 million on holding and promoting the PCC elections while at the same time cutting the police grant leading to the loss of 700 Officers in Cornwall, Devon & the Scilly Isles. Candidates representing the Parliamentary parties responsible for this must accept their share of responsibility for this appalling situation.
This “americanisation” of police governance is alien to our british culture. Accordingly I have rejected standing on a party political platform and contest this election as an INDEPENDENT against party politics in policing. My accountability will be to the people of Cornwall, Devon & the Scilly Isles not a party political Minister in London. Any PCC candidate standing on a party political platform will owe allegience to the party that supported them!”.
